The Kings of The North and South
James David Malm
Daniel 2:1, and in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith his spirit
was troubled, and his sleep broke from him. Then the king commanded to call the magicians, astrologers, and the sorcerers,
and the Chaldeans, for to show the king his dreams. So, they came and stood before the king. And the king said to them, “I
have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.”
Then spake the Chaldeans to the king, “O, King, live forever: tell thy servants the dream, and we will show the
interpretation.” And the king answered and said, “The thing is gone from me: if ye will not make known unto me
the dream, with the interpretation thereof, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. But if you
show the dream, and the interpretation thereof, you shall all receive of me gifts and rewards and great honor: therefore,
show me the dream, and the interpretation of it.”
They answered again and said, that the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation of it.
The king answered and said, “I know of certainty that you would gain time, because you see the thing is gone from me.
But if ye will not make known unto me the dream, there is but one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt
words to speak before me, till time passes, till the time be changed, therefore, tell me the dream, and I shall know that
you can show me the interpretation thereof truly.”
Now, the Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, “There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king's
matter: therefore, there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that has asked such a thing of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.
And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is none other that can show it before the king, except the gods,
whose dwelling is not with flesh.” And for this cause, the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy
all the wise men of Babylon.
This king Nebuchadnezzar believed that these wise men were playing for time to come up with some deceitful explanation
and he wasn't going to have any part of that. He set out to destroy them.
In Verse 13, and the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his fellows to
be slain. Verse 14, then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king's guard, which was
gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon. He answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, “Why is the decree
so hasty from the king?” Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that
he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation.
Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah his companions: That they
would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning the secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest
of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
Daniel answered and said, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And He changes
the times and the seasons: He removes kings, and sets up kings: He gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that
know understanding: He reveals the deep and secret things: He knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
The light dwells with the Eternal.”
Verse 23, I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and has made
known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.
It is the Eternal God, the great king of the universe, who knows and reveals these things unto his servants. And his
servants are those whom He, the Almighty God chooses and who respond and are loyal and faithful to God and to God alone. The
prophets are chosen by God, prepared by God and sent by God to deliver the messages and the information and the understanding
from God.
Now, in Verse 24, therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordered to destroy the wise men of Babylon:
he went and said thus unto him, “Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will show unto
the king the interpretation.” Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus to him, “I
have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation.”
The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar, “Art thou able to make known unto me
the dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?” Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said,
“The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show
unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to the King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be
in the latter days. So, we know that this vision is for and about the latter days.
Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; As for you, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind
upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter, after you are gone, and he that reveals secrets makes known to thee what
shall come to pass. But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any other living,
but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy
heart.
Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, this huge statue whose brightness was excellent,
stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. It was awesome.” Verse 32: This image's head was of fine gold,
his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of
clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay,
and broke them to pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and
became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and
the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
This is the dream; and we shall tell the interpretation thereof before the king. Thou, O King, art a king of kings,
a great of king: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. Now, a king of kings is
commonly called an emperor. He rules over other countries, a number of countries, which have their own kings over each one.
And all these many countries with their own kings are ruled over by an emperor. And this Nebuchadnezzar was a king of kings,
an emperor.
Verse 38: And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given
into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom
inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall
be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things: and as iron that breaks all these, shall break
in pieces and bruise.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided;
but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes
of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so shall the kingdom be partly strong, and partly broken or brittle. And
whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men. That is this kingdom shall
consist of a variety of different races or peoples or nations. But they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not
mixed with clay.
These different races will not mix together to form one race. They will remain divided and severed, but still part
of this kingdom.
Verse 44: And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed:
and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and shall
stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it break in pieces
the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass
hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
Here we have a great, awesome statue, made up of different kinds of metals. And we are specifically told that these
metals represent different kingdoms. And when we look at history, we know that the kingdom or the head called Babylon was
replaced by the Medes and Persians, which in turn was replaced by the Greeks, which in turn was replaced by Rome. All of these
metals, representing different kingdoms or empires, were all part of the same statue. We might say part of the same body.
Now, we as individuals have heads and shoulders, and arms and bellies, and breasts and chests, and legs and feet. They
are all parts of our body. But all of these parts are controlled by the brain, by the head. So, we have a body of many parts,
all fulfilling different functions. But they are all directed and controlled by the head. Even so the statue had a head and
that head was Babylon. And all the successive parts or kingdoms or empires were all part of the one body, the one statue.
It was all Babylon.
The entire thing was the Babylonian system. It may have been the Greek empire or the Persian Empire or the Roman Empire,
but all of these empires were part of the Babylonian system. When Babylon was overthrown by the Medes and Persians, the different
races of people came in. They overthrew Babylon. They took over and then they continued the same system. They ruled by the
same means. The means of a ruler and a church, a church-state relationship. And this carried on through each successive empire.
In Babylon, you had the soothsayers and the astrologers, the priest and the king, who worked together and ran the kingdom.
With the Greeks, you had Alexander who proclaimed himself a god and so on. This was the same system being perpetuated by different
peoples and different empires down through history. But it was all the same system.
This is why we find in Revelation 18, that the Roman empire, the final revival of the Holy Roman Empire is referred
to as Babylon the Great. It is the Babylonian system and that system shall be destroyed by the stone, the rock, Jesus Christ
at his coming.
In history, we see the head of Babylon destroyed by the Medes and the Persians. Later, the Medes and the Persians were
defeated by Alexander the Great, who died in 323 BC of a fever, and his empire was split into a number of parts. One part
was Egypt, under Ptolemy. And at a certain point in time, Ptolemy had a dispute with his general Seleucus Nicator, and banished
Nicator. Later, Ptolemy became involved in some real problems and Nicator took advantage of the opportunity and went to the
province of Babylon and seized the province of Babylon, which included the area that we call Iraq today as well as Syria.
So, Seleucus Nicator became the king of Syria/Iraq or the king of the province of Babylon. And he broke that province away
from Ptolemy; made it independent, made himself king and he became known as the King of the North.
Later, this area of Syria was swallowed up by the Roman Empire. Rome itself being still another vestige of this Babylonian
system. So, the king of the north was and became part of Babylon, part of Rome, part of the Roman system. And we know that
the last empire, the one to follow the Greeks, the empire of iron was to be Rome.
Rome was the legs, and feet, and toes of Babylon. Rome is both the legs, feet, and toes of this statue of the Babylonian
system. Rome is also the king of the north, Babylon. Again that is why in Revelation 18, this last system of great empire
on the earth, this Roman system is called Babylon the Great.
Daniel 2 describes this whole Babylonian system. This whole statue from the head to the toes as Babylon. All of its
parts, although different and independent countries, or nations, or peoples, are part of the whole statue, are part of the
whole body. The Greek empire, the Medo-Persia empire, the Roman empire, the Babylonian empire are all part of the same statue,
all part of the same system, which will be destroyed by Christ at his coming. This is Babylon.
After the death of Alexander, when the Greek empire split into many parts, Seleucus Nicator took advantage of Ptolemy's
troubles in Egypt to seize the province of Babylon, which comprise Iraq and Syria, north of Judea. In doing so, he became
the king of a northern kingdom, while Ptolemy remained king of Egypt, which also included Palestine and Israel. And this was
a southern kingdom. That is south of Jerusalem, south of Palestine. Again, it included both Egypt and Judea. This was the
king of the south.
Now, Daniel 11 covers the rivalries between this king of the north and king of the south. And if we go toward the end
of Daniel 11, starting about Verse 40, and at the time of the end, that is the latter days, our time, shall the king of the
south push at him, the king of the north, and the king of the north shall come against him, the king of the south, like a
whirlwind, with chariots or vehicles, and with horsemen or soldiers, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries,
and shall overflow and pass over. He, that is the king of the north, shall enter also into the glorious land, or Palestine
or Judea or Israel, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and
the chief of the children of Ammon, which is the Jordanian nation today, which has as its capital the city of Ammon.
And he shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. But he, that is
the king of the north, shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt:
and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps or at his feet. They shall be kneeling or bowing at his feet, that
is; he shall be standing over the Libyans and the Ethiopians.
Ruling over them or dominating them and controlling them. They shall bow to his wishes. And he shall be in control
of the whole region. Having conquered Israel, the Jewish state and Egypt; the Libyans and Ethiopians will probably not be
willing to risk resistance and will simply bow to his wishes, the wishes of the king of the north, which is Rome, the feet
of the Babylonian system.
Now, it says in Verse 40, at the time of the end, the king of the south shall push or provoke the king of the north.
So, who would the king of the north come to attack? Pretty obviously, the ones who provoked him, those who pushed at him. And
who does he attack? He attacks Egypt and the glorious land.
They are the ones who provoked him; they are the king of the south. Egypt was south of Judea a couple thousand years
ago, and believe it or not, Egypt is still south of Judea. Egypt was the king of the south then and Egypt is the king of the
south today. It is very simple. Look at a map.
To say that Egypt is no longer south of Judea today is absurd. To say that Egypt was occupied by Rome for a time, and
therefore is no longer south of Judea is absurd. And to say that because Egypt were occupied by Rome for
a time means that somehow they are not Egyptians anymore, and they're now south of Judea is ridiculous.
It makes no more sense than it does to say that Japan is no longer Japanese but American; because the Americans occupied
that country for a few years. It's ridiculous. It's absurd.
But it was said in the past; because these things were sealed as it is written in Daniel 12, until the very end
So fifty years ago when such statements were made it was the best they could come up with because these things were
sealed, and were not meant to be understood by men at that time. They were sealed. They were closed up.
They were concealed by Almighty God and there is no shame in being unable to discern what God has hidden.
It is a fact that we are not as wise as him. And He conceals matters and it is our duty to try and understand them
and seek out the understanding and the meaning. But if God chooses not to give that understanding, we will never be able to
understand what He has concealed. So, statements made 40, 50, 100 years ago cannot be accurate because these things were sealed
until the very, very end time.
It is now clear that Egypt was, is, and has always been south of Judea or south of Jerusalem. They are the king of
the south, together with their allies. And who are Egypt's allies today? They are Israel and the United States of America.
Those are their allies. The king of the south is Egypt and her allies, which means Israel and the United States of America.
Those three nations and by extension, America's allinces with Britain and Canada and other countries, that is the king
of the south.
There is one person who is saying that Iran is the king of the south. Well, looking at a map, you will find that Iran
is east of Israel, not south, and you will find that Iran is never, or Persia is never; referred to as the king of the south
in God's word, in the Holy Bible. There is only one nation which has ever been referred to as the king of the south and
that is Egypt and only Egypt. Iran has never been referred to as the king of the south and Iran is not south of Jerusalem
or Judea.
Now, there is a prominent Church of God who declares that Psalm 83 means that the Islamic peoples will unite against
Israel. And they say that these Islamic people are going to coalesce together. Islamic extremism is going to come together
to become the king of the south.
Now, just think about that for a minute. We just read in Daniel 11 that the king of the north is going to come down
and conquer Egypt and the glorious land, Palestine, Judea. If the king of the north is going to conquer Judea and Egypt, how
is it that Islamic extremism, which is against Judea the Jews, Israel, Islamic Extremism is against them, how could they be
the king of the south? Would they not in fact be allies of the king of the north? Would they not be associated with the king
of the north, who is going to destroy or conquer Judea? How is it that Islamic extremists or certain Islamic nations, who
hate Jews or at least hate Israel, would somehow be considered to be the king of the south when they are in fact allied with
the king of the north? This just doesn't make sense.
The fact is the king of the north is to come and conquer the king of the south. And the king of the south is Egypt.
Egypt is who they are going to conquer. They are not going out to conquer some other strange country. As it says in Psalm
83, it talks about Edom, and the Ishmaelites, or Arabs. Edom is the Turks. Amalek, the Philistines or people from Gaza, the
inhabitants of Tyre, which would be Lebanon.
These people are going to be allied with the king of the north. How is it that the king of the south (Extremists according
to some) is allied with the king of the north if they are fighting a war with the king of the north?
Let me try and be clear here. The king of the north is to come down and conquer Egypt and Judea. These various Arab
peoples are Islamic peoples mentioned in Psalm 83 are also going to rise up against Israel. If the king of the north, that
is the Roman Empire, comes against Judea and these Islamic peoples also come against Judea, how could they be enemies? They
are going against the same Judea for the same purpose, they are working together, and they are allies. They are not enemies.
Islamic nations and Islamic extremism will not become the king of the south. They are not the king of the south. Egypt,
which happens to be an Islamic nation, is allied with Israel, and is the king of the south, but they are not extremists.
One other point to be made in this particular area is the simple fact that Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5, that when
they declare peace and safety, sudden destruction will come upon them. Upon who? Upon Judea. Why would they declare peace
and safety if Islamic extremism was not defeated and was, in fact, on the rise and coalescing together against them?
How could that possibly promote the concept of peace and safety? How could Judea ever come out and say, “Well,
we’ve got peace and safety even though our enemies are increased and they're coming together and they're coming
against us, somehow, we found peace and safety”? Come on, my friends, this is really absurd.
For peace and safety to be declared for these people, who are experts in the concepts of defense and safety, to declare
peace and safety, they will have a real situation, where they have achieved their goals and their purpose and they will really
believe that peace and safety has been achieved. They're not going to declare it while extremism is running rampant and
extremists are banding together against them. That's just crazy.
Israel will not declare peace and safety when their enemies are banding together, rising up against them. Peace and
safety can only be declared when the enemy has been defeated or put down, or the enemy gives up and makes peace. Islamic extremism
will be defeated. It will not become the king of the south. The king of the south is Egypt and Judea. Again, the king of the
south is Egypt and Judea.
There is no way that Islamic extremism could become the king of the south. First, because they would not be at odds
with the Roman Empire, with Babylon, with king of the north. They would have the same purpose, which is to defeat Judea. And
second, because the Jews or Judea would never declare that peace and safety have been achieved with such extremism running
rampant around them. This just does not make any sense.
But it makes sense to certain people because they have chosen to cling to the words of a man written over 50 years
ago and in so doing, in idolizing this man and clinging to his words, instead of realizing that there is room for growth,
room for development, and realizing that they should put God's word first. They come up with these ridiculous assertions.
I hope that they realize their error and change.
We are now coming up to a very sharp, hard, difficult, bloody, hopefully very short war, which will defeat Islamic
extremism and put these extremists down and will create a situation where peace can be achieved, where at least a peace agreement
can be achieved, so that Judah will be able to say “We have achieved peace and safety or peace and security.”
This war is not the Great Tribulation and Islamic extremism will not win. They will be defeated and destroyed. Their
basis of support will be removed and those countries financing them will be crushed or their regimes will be changed, their
systems overthrown, and the people of those countries will rise up and they will establish new governments calling for peace.
A peace agreement will be made. Islamic extremism will be defeated.
And when peace is finally achieved, war will break out for another reason from another source. That source being Jewish
extremism. As extremists in Israel are still a viable force and can still throw stumbling blocks in the path to peace. They
can still riot. They can still cause all kinds of problems, which will result in major obstacles to the peace process and
major obstacles involved in implementing the peace agreed to.
A peace agreed to, is one thing; actually implementing the agreement is quite another. If these extremists refuse to
evacuate settlements. If major battles erupt, there can be really, really serious repercussions and if peacekeepers get involved
in trying to evict some of these people and major battles break out between those sworn and commissioned to enforce the agreement
and the Jewish settlers, there will be real trouble, real problems.
What I am saying is that the defeat of Islamic extremism and the completion and agreement to a peace agreement does
not necessarily mean that there will be no problems in implementing that agreement. And the agreement could still collapse
because of extremism on the Jewish side.
I would also like to say just a few more things here. And you can put this last little bit down to pure speculation,
pure fantasy. But there are certain people in the establishment; we might call them New World Order boys, who have been planning
this for a long, long time. And they are preparing to use this coming war to advance their agenda for a New World Order or
a world government.
To do this, they need a horrific conflict. They need to put real fear in the people. And this conflict will be horrific,
hopefully, very short. But it is possible and do not be terrified if it results in a confrontation between the United States
and Russia.
I am not talking about an exchange of nuclear weapons or anything like that. I am talking maybe about both sides going
onto a high-nuclear alert or something like that, brandishing sabers kind of a thing, threatening each other kind of a thing,
to put real fear into people's mind. So that Europeans will be terrified and they will be ready to stand up and say, “We
have to do something. Europe has to unite to become a balance between Russia and America, to become a referee between Russia
and America. We have to do something to guarantee the peace or the future of the whole world is in jeopardy.”
I'm not saying this will happen, but I'm saying don't be over terrified if it does. This is not the start
of the Great Tribulation. This war is not the start of the Tribulation. And these events coming are tactics to induce terror,
to induce nations and peoples to give up some of their national sovereignty, including financial sovereignty, to help bring
in this New World Order. That's what it is about.
And we may find that this war is the catalyst which brings in the New Order in Europe. And this catalyst may be much
more severe than just an Arab-Israeli conflict or an Israel-American conflict with Iran and with Arabs. It may end up with
some real serious saber rattling between Russia and America, particularly if Russia should decide to use the moment when America's
occupied, to move into Georgia or something similar to that.
This could really escalate into a major crisis. Let's hope and pray it doesn't. But even if it does, it's
not the end. It is only a scare tactic. It is only the catalyst which will bring in the New Order in Europe.
We will get through this without major nuclear exchanges with the United States and anyone else, and peace and security
will be achieved. At least an agreement for peace and security will be achieved, and Europe will rise up. So, this coming
conflict is going to be really scary.
It may become extremely frightening, but it is a catalyst to bring in the new Europe. So, don't be afraid, don't
be overly concerned. Yes, it's going to be a difficult few weeks, but it won't last too long, and it will bring in
a new order.
Now, God is saying in the prophets, He's going to do certain things. And Satan is trying to unite the world to
prevent those things from happening. And right now the idea of a New World Order is quite different from what the Scriptures
declare God wants to happen or God knows is going to happen. And at some point God is going to say to Satan, “So far
and no further, the Scriptures will be fulfilled.”
And at that time, things are going to turn around on a dime, a complete about turn and about face in world affairs
and this New Order will be achieved. Not in London or New York, but in Europe. The New Order in Europe, the revival of the
Holy Roman Empire.
Whether this comes about simply as a matter of a war against extremism or whether it's going to take more, I don't
know. And I would call this pure speculation. I know that there will be a war, which will destroy Islamic extremism and provide
the conditions for a peace agreement, so that peace and security or peace and safety can be declared.
At the same time, this war will create the conditions for the revival of the Holy Roman Empire in Europe. How far and
how extreme the violence is going to be before it is resolved and before the battle is won, I don't know. I'm hoping
it will be limited. We can all hope that and pray for that. But these people working behind the scenes, trying to create their
New World order, are interested in panicking the peoples of the world into giving up their sovereignty.
And they are going to make this as horrific as they can. On the other hand, God is going to set limits and He is going
to put a stop to it at exactly the right moment. So, how far this will go remains to be seen. But we do know that victory
will be won, that extremism will be destroyed, that peace and security or at least an agreement on peace and security will
be achieved. And we do know that a false prophet will be set up, who will call for a new order in Europe and will be able
to achieve that at just the right moment, at just the right time.
And it is likely that this new order in Europe will be created to balance off the east and the west, the Americans,
the Anglo-Saxons from the Russians; to be a balance of power arrangement. And the very idea of peace and safety may be more
than just peace and safety in the Middle East. It may be that mankind as a whole has achieved peace and safety by achieving
a solution to this east-west, Asian-American rivalry which has been going on.
So, there maybe even a greater concept of peace and safety than just the Middle East. There may be a concept of peace
and safety for the whole world. And at that point, when the declaration is made, sudden destruction will come upon our peoples.
The city of Jerusalem will be occupied, Israel, Egypt, and their allies, which includes the Unites States, Britain, Canada,
Australia, will be defeated.
Now, how much damage is done to each particular country is open to question. America, being the most militaristic nation
on earth, will probably suffer by far the most damage in comparison to say Australia or Canada. Nevertheless, we are all going
to be subjected and dominated to and by this new system in Europe. It will dominate the world for three and a half years and
will be destroyed by the coming of Jesus Christ. So says the word of God.
