If some man were to say, follow me for I am greater than God and I know better than God. He will give very few
followers; very very few people would think that he was a sane and intelligent man. Yet, large number of such people
have been going around for hundreds of years; attracting hundreds of millions of followers. How can this be? Who would follow
such a man?
It is because they are subtle. They use tricks. They distort scriptures to deceive. And the person
not grounded in the scriptures, not grounded in sound doctrines, simple cannot understand what is going on. These
things simply can’t be discerned by the average man who is not grounded in the Holy Scriptures.
The primary scriptures used to deceive people is found in Matthew 16, where it is written Jesus says: "I say unto
you that you are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail again it.
And I will give the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven and whatever thou shalt bind on earth it shall be bound in heaven and whatsoever
thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
These people say: Peter was given power to sit in judgment of God’s words, to bind whatever he chose to
bind; and to loose whatever he chose. They say that Peter was given the authority to decide for himself; which of God’s
commandments he was willing to obey, and to enforce and to teach. And which of God’s commandment he could decide he
did not want to support or obey or accept or teach. In doing this, Jesus Christ exulted Peter above God’s word setting
him up in judgment of God’s word. And giving him the authority to decide whether he thought God was right or wrong.
In doing this, Jesus Christ made Peter sovereign and God his servant.
Is this true? did Jesus Christ really set up men over God when Jesus himself said I can do nothing without my
Father? I have done the will of my Father. I have kept my Father’s commandments. Jesus said when you pray; pray to the
Father, thy will be done. Whose will,? the Father’s will! We are to pray Thy will be done which means that we must want
that to happen. We must want to do his will. Why then would men be given the authority to change God’s word, to
change God’s will at their own personal discretion? Does Peter really have that authority and do his heirs and descendants
ecclesiastically really have such authority? Or is this a misreading of the scriptures? Is it a twisting of the words of God?
Jesus must have known that His words would be twisted therefore; he went on to explain what he was getting at just a couple
of pages over.
Read
in Matthew 18:15 where he said: “If your brother trespasses against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him
alone. And if he shall hear you, you have gained your brother. But he will not hear you, then take with you one or two more that
in the mouth of two or three witnesses the thing may be established. But if he still refuses to hear you, then tell
the matter to the church and if he neglects to hear the church, then let him be unto you as a pagan and a publican.
Truly I say unto you, whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you shall loose on earth shall
be loosed in heaven.
What is he talking about here? Is he not talking about sitting in judgment of disputes and the responsibility of the
Church to properly apply the word of God to such disputes? For he goes on to say: Again I say to you that if two or three
of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that you shall asked, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in
Heaven for where ever two or three gathered together in my name there am I in them in the midst of them. This friends, is
talking about the responsibility of the Church, to be faithful and loyal to God’s words and to make binding decision
based upon God's word.
Jesus Christ was not conferring upon Peter any kind of authority to change God’s
word. To change God’s law; to bind, or loose, or sit in judgment of the will and the word of the Almighty God.
Jesus Christ was informing Peter that his authority was to properly apply God’s word in all physical disputes. That
is the limit of the authority of Peter and of the Church. When we have disputes we should try our best to resolve them and
if we cannot do so, we can appeal to the Church for a decision which should be based upon God’s word.
Was Jesus saying anything new here? Of course not, he was merely quoting the law given to Moses. For it is written
in Deuteronomy 17:8 “If there arise a matter too difficult for you in judgment between blood and blood, and plea and
plea and between stroke and stroke, being a matter of controversy within your gates then shall you go to the place
which the Lord thy God shall choose and there shall ye come in to the priests to the Levites and unto the judges that shall
be in on those days and inquire and they shall show thee sentences of judgments and you shall do according to the sentence
which they shall show thee and you shall observe according to all that they inform thee according to the sentence of the law
which they shall teach thee and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee; you shall do. You shall not decline
from the sentence which they shall show thee to the right hand nor to the left. And the man that will do presumptuously and
will not obey the priest that is there to minister before the Lord thy God, or unto the judge; even that man shall die;
and you shall put away the evil from the land and all the people shall hear and fear and do no more presumptuously.”
There is authority in the ministry and in the priesthood to make decisions based upon on God’s law. Their authority
and power is to enforce the word of God, to enforce and teach men about the things of God. They have no authority to deviate
from the word of God. For it is written in Deuteronomy 13; “If there arise among your prophet or dreamer of dreams and
give the a sign or a wonder and if the sign or wonder come to pass of which he has spoken and says go up after other
gods which ye have not known and serve them, thou shall not harken unto the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams,
for the Lord of God does test you to prove you; to know whether you love the Lord of God with all your heart and with
all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord of God and fear Him and keep His commandments and obey His voice and you shall
serve Him and cleave unto Him. And that prophet or the dreamer of dream shall be put to death because he has spoken to turn
you away from the Lord of God that brought you out of the house of bondage.”
It is the Eternal God who is sovereign; not man. It is the Eternal’s will that we are to perform; not men's
will. It is the Eternal God that we are to obey and His words, not men's. No man has the right to change God’s
word, to bind or loose God’s commandments. No men can exult himself above the Great Majesty on high who has created
the universe, who can hold the world in the hollow of His hands. And before whom a man, any man is a mere speck of dust
in comparison, man is nothing he has neither the wisdom, nor the understanding, nor the knowledge, nor the ability, nor the
right, nor the power to sit in judgment of God’s word and decide for himself what commandment men should or should not
obey.
So, what then did Jesus really say to Peter in Matthew 16? He said: “Caiaphas, you are Peter, a petros, a pebble,
a tiny stone but it is upon this rock; that rock being Jesus Christ himself, the chief cornerstone, the foundation stone;
that I will build my Church and you must bind and loose according to God’s law in heaven. You must settle all disputes
and made decisions based upon God’s commandments. The foundation of the Church is the rock Jesus Christ, not the pebble
Peter, not the pebble some other man who claims to be an heir of Peter. No man has the right to exult himself of above God.
No man should be looked to as ultimate moral authority.
All men whether they be prophets or apostles or ministries or evangelist or whoever they claim to be, should be tested
according to God’s word. As Paul said, “Follow me even as I follow Jesus Christ.” We are to follow God and
Jesus Christ and keep the commandments and do God's will regardless of what any man says.
No man, no man has any power whatsoever to change as much as a punctuation mark in the Law of God for it is written
in Matthew 5:17, “Think not that I come to destroy the law or the prophets I am not come to destroy but to fulfill;
for truly I say unto you, that until Heaven and Earth should pass away one jot, or one title, or one punctuation mark; shall
in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled. As long as the Heavens and the Earth exist all the commandments,
all the law; must be obeyed. No man can change it ever.” Verses 19: Whosoever shall break one of these least commandments
and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least to the Kingdom of Heaven; and I say (the speaker) to you; " only
if you repent will you even be in God's kingdom". But whosoever shall do and teach the least of the commandments,
the same shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. For I say to you, except your righteousness should exceed the righteousness
of the priests, the scribes and the Pharisees you shall in no wise enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Indeed we were told in Daniel 7:25 “That the great evil doers shall speak great words against the most high
and shall think to change times and llaws. It is the son of wickedness that seeks to change the law of God, that
seeks authority to decide for himself which laws he will obey and which laws should not be obeyed. Remember how in the Garden
of Eden the serpent beguiled Eve telling her she should decide for herself what is right and what is wrong. And in so doing,
would become a God.
Man has been trying to do this ever since, to decide for himself what is right and wrong. To shove God’s word
aside. Men do not have the wisdom, or the right; to change the law of their Creator. The WEternal is God; not man. The
Eternal is sovereign; not man. The eternal law is His word. His Law, His will; should be obeyed for He is our Father; and
the basic Ten Commandments tell us Honor thy Father and thy Mother that they life may be long upon the land which the Lord
thy God giveth. If you want a long life, if you want to live, you must obey God and keep his commandments for only those who
keep the Commandments of God shall have access to the tree of life, shall have the right to eternal life.
Revelation 22:14 “Those who wanted to sit in the judgment of God’s word, who want to decide for themselves
which of God’s commandments they should obey or bind. Or which of God’s commandments they may loose or reject.
Those people shall not be in the resurrection; and shall not be in the Kingdom of God; they shall not be part of the first
fruits. They shall have their part in the lake of fire; if they do not repent; and those who follow such people shall join
them there.”
Do not follow such people, follow God and Jesus Christ. Keep their commandments, all of them and follow men only as
they followed Christ. Only as they keep the commandments. Always put God and His Commandments first in all things: ALWAYS.
